Sponsored by Southern Charter.
Venue, Imperial Yacht Club.
A highly successful and keenly contested annual dinghy Interschools Regatta took place this week-end at Imperial Yacht Club. Our thanks to Southern Charter for their sponsorship. 68 dinghys took part representing schools across the Western and Southern Cape.
Our congratulations to all the young sailors that competed. The start of racing saw a very strong South Easter on Saturday afternoon, it strengthened to almost gale force and the racing was posponed after the first race. The conditions on Sunday turned out perfectly with a gentle to moderate breeze that strengthened by race 4 and then moderated for the afternoon. 7 Races were sailed in total.
The overall winning school was Bergvliet High School who managed to topple the strong Bishops team that have had a stranglehold on the trophy in recent years. SACS came in third. The contest for the trophy was neck and neck all the way with coaches and supporters hanging on each result race by race right until the end.
There were many closely fought contests throughout the fleet, there were bumps, spills and tears but there were also thrills and elation as each contestant gave their all.
Imperial Yacht Club wishes to thank all the sailors that participated, Southern Charter, and all the members that helped make the event a great success.
